Why moveqi?
What is qi? (pronounced: chee; also spelled ch'i)
Qi is the Chinese term for life energy, vital force, also known in India as prana, as ki in Japan, and axe' in Brazil, among others. As our medical paradigm has yet to accept the existence of life energy systems, we have no specific term in English for these vital forces. So how may we consider qi? Looking to an ancient and elegant culture for guidance, we find that the Chinese have studied, treated and developed exercise systems to enhance our life based on these energy systems; and for millenia.
Acupuncture addresses the different types of qi of our body, through points in the long known (4,000+ years) grid system, commonly called channels or meridians. Acupuncture directly influences our energy systems, so therapeutic approaches include such methods as harmonizing imbalance, opening obstructions, tonifying, reducing excess; basically, to move qi.
Qi gong (also spelled ch'i kung; gong means work) is a generic term for internal exercise systems emphasizing our life energies. The approach is through awareness of posture, mindfulness and deep breathing. Qi exercices have been practiced for tens of hundreds of years, the most sophisticated system of qi gong being the well-known Tai Chi. A basic principle of this slow-moving meditation is to integrate body, mind, breath and life energy. While doing the movements of the Tai Chi form, players learn to use the mind to move the qi and to use the qi to move the body: to move qi.
